Before taking over West Lexham (his family home), Edmund ran a landscape and architectural design business. He was involved in the design and layout of the Secret Garden Party and also helped establish Clearwater Revival, a leading natural swimming pool company. His knowledge of sustainable architecture, advanced energy and the environment ensures that West Lexham has renewables and low impact development at its heart. Edmund is also a painter and Vortex Healer, so brings additional creativity and a spiritual dimension to West Lexham. You may also meet Maya around the place, she is 3 years old and very much knows what she wants!
In 2012 Isabelle joined Edmund at West Lexham, having trained as an interior designer at the Inchbald School of Design and studied at the Coaches Training Institute in London and New York. With these skills, she is able to help Edmund realise his vision for West Lexham as a holiday and event venue, a retreat and a place of learning. If you bump into Izzy you might well meet Cosima too, West Lexham's youngest resident.
Together with her husband, Margaret spent many years restoring the original but neglected buildings and gardens, as well as creating the shell house folly, all of which has helped make West Lexham such a special place. A barrister's training is put to good use as a partner but she is more often found working in the garden or even making curtains or lamenting her son Edmund's far flung ideas!
Laura has extensive hospitality experience working in the hotel business for 18 years, trained as a reception and reservations manager, duty manager and as a revenue manager, before joining us in 2014. A Norfolk yokel, Laura has seen the business grow and develop, starting 2 months after the Barn opened, so has been here to help nurture and support us on our journey. As our first point of telephone contact, softly spoken but quick witted, perceptive and with an eye for detail, Laura’s years of experience have paid off as our resident swan, thriving with an aura of calm whilst juggling a multitude of customer enquiries, requests and demands. Laura smiles while she goes that extra mile!
A 1st class BA (Hons) Business Management degree-educated and experienced Travel Management professional having worked in the industry for 17 years, Jeanette has an extensive customer experience background, and subsequently lectured for 5 years in Tourism Management. Jeanette is a tenacious and pragmatic Yorkshire lass, organised yet flexible to be juggling multiple operational tasks at one time, with humour! Jeanette is an enthusiastic team player, and her confidence, great interpersonal qualities and use of initiative have helped us enormously since she and her husband Simon joined our team as on-site Duty Managers in Sept 2016. Both she and Simon love engaging with guests and are passionate about helping everyone enjoy the best possible experience.
A BA (Hons) Garden Art & Design (Landscape Architecture) degree-educated, with an RHS Silver -Guilt design and build at Tatton Park, Simon is an extremely competent gardener and design professional who ran his own landscape and construction business for 27 years. Simon oversees the management of our 21-acre gardens and wider grounds, however in a previous life Simon was a superb farm salesman and top-class rugby player and, with his larger than life Geordie character and enthusiastic creative flare for new ways of doing things, he has helped us enormously since joining our team, in Sept 2016. Jeanette and Simon will make you feel very welcome when you arrive, and Simon is always happy to encourage a bit of ‘tree-hugging’!
First impressions really count and without Tara this place would come to a sticky end! With previous customer service experience and having worked her way through the ranks, Tara now takes responsibility for the running of our housekeeping operations and delivery of our high standards. Tara is a self-motivated feisty little Essex bundle and is a role model for her team, super-organised and committed to ensuring attention to detail through her flexible, adaptable customer focused approach. Often Tara will be covering the Duty Manager role when Jeanette & Simon are away and, in doing so, nothing is ever too much trouble.
The behind-the-scenes magician, Jo ensures everything (and everyone) maintains a sense of order. A natural multi-tasker, she will put her hand to anything. Her previous work as a school teacher’s assistant has equipped her with patience in all situations, while her enthusiasm and ‘can-do’ attitude is a constant inspiration.
We are keen to take summer interns who are interested in learning about conscious hospitality. Please let us know if you are interested. We occasionally take other volunteers if they are particularly interested in what we do and we have space.
