Sunday 30th October 2011
Course Overview
Taking the mystery but not the hard work out of making your own Christmas cake from scratch. Bring back some of the tradition of the festive period by preparing your family a beautiful boozy Christmas cake.

Simon Blackwell is a self taught baker who appeared on this years series of The Great British Bake Off on BBC2.
Simon has been baking since he was a young boy, and loves to pass on any hints or tips that he can as well as his infectious enthusiasm.
Teaching Methods
This session is predominantly practical with a small element given over to recipe development and improvisation, allowing each baker to conjure up a unique cake to take home.
Course Content
The course will consist of a "watch and follow" section where bakers will build the basic cake batter before adding their selection of fruits, nuts, candied peels etc, as well as a modest selection of alcohol.
Once completely happy with their creations, each baker will be shown how to prepare a cake tin for the long spell in the oven, and then it's in with the cakes.
When the cakes come out they will be stood to one side and allowed to cool whilst the course members will be taken to a local pub for lunch.
Upon their return the bakers will box up their cakes ready for the journey home, along with detailed instructions on various methods of decorating and storing their cakes.
Course Duration
This course will run from 10am until finish, which will depend on the number of bakers versus ovens.
