Eleven of us including teacher, Ingen Breen, gathered for 3 nights at the West Lexham Education Centre in rural Norfolk.  The group comprised 4 beginners to Zen practice and 6 Dancing Mountains East folk who were the organisers and “practice committee”.     The venue was lovely if not somewhat quirky… two comfortable multi-double-bedroom “cottages” one of which included the “Village Hall” which, in no time was transformed in...

A group of around 30 pupils from Sacred Heart School in Swaffham brought glorious spring weather with them for their school outing to West Lexham.   They arrived with bright smiles, bags of treasures for mosaic making and a fine larder of pizza dough and toppings. The morning was spent taking in a historical tour of the site and its buildings, led by Edmund and Dora the dog. They learned about the old farm and how the village has changed since farming was mechanised, and about how...

In passing a Norfolk bonsai nursery the other day, I could not resist going in. I was on my way to visit my goddaughter and upon beholding the beautiful miniature trees, my childhood hobby was rekindled and I just had to buy her one.   I realised that many of today’s bonsais are not grown from seedlings and encouraged to grow into the perfect shape from birth. Rather many are chopped down larger trees, or potted, larger nursery trees, cut off and lateral branches encouraged to grow....

Our lovely volunteer Gabriel has been ably assisting us with crafting a beautiful willow screen for our outdoor bathroom block. Begun almost exactly this time last year by our friends Dee, Suheyla, Maria and Tim,  the dry weather and busy summer delayed the completion of the screen, but Gabriel has done a great job and got the screen finished in the nick of time before the buds burst into catkins and leaves.   The vertical props are living and will continue to grow and be woven into ...

Last week we made the trip down to London to spend an evening with friends new and old at The Hub Kings Cross for our Spring Convergence. The West Lexham Spring Convergence is our contribution to creating a greater synergy between the diverse network of changemakers we are connected to and enjoy working with. Immersive, playfully facilitated events are being held in London, Norfolk and beyond. We are seeking the unexpected magic that happens in the liminal spaces between people, pl...

London Convergence@ Hackney City Farm Last week we were joined in the Straw Bale Building at Hackney City Farm  by a diverse and inspiring group of family and friends, individuals who have supported West Lexham over the first year and visited the centre to hold events or to escape the city and enjoy time with loved ones. The intention was to bring them all together to thank them and share some of the highlights of our first year, as well as to introduce a collaborative learning...

Last week we hosted a session at the exuberant Changemaker’s Fayre curated by the newest addition to the Hub family - Hub Westminster. Perched on the 1st floor of New Zealand House and moments from Trafalgar Square, this Hub has already attracted a diverse and dedicated posse of changemakers  and the fayre brought together and celebrated the wider community.   West Lexham teamed up with Reboot- creators of Reboot Camp which was held for the first time at West Lexham thi...

The Finance Innovation Lab core team and a handful of  active supporters, took three days at West Lexham to reflect on our collective learning ecology and to think about our next leaps forward.  After nearly three years of research, community assemblies, and workshops, The Lab has found itself in a position to scale.  The question that brought us all together this weekend was how to scale up (go deep) and to scale out (go far).         West Lexham&...

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to live in a world of total abundance with total freedom of expression and creativity? A world like this is the illusion of a week at the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert. Imagine a world where there is enough for everyone and it is a gift economy. Where you are given meals and drink without the expectation of exchange there and then, but on the understanding that somewhere else and at some other time you are gifting whatever y...
